KTU Institute of Metrology (until 1998. Metrological Examination Institute) is the scientific and academic unit of Kaunas University of Technology, established in 1995. by the Senate of the University, through Lithuanian state metrological service.

MI is responsible for the unity of measurements and development and scientific researchof the metrological system and experimental development, application of new scientific knowledge in the study process and in society, new measurement systems and measurement technologies. It  is involved in the development of metrological system of Lithuania. For 17 years. it is participating in Lithuanian and international research programs, coordinating metrology-based research and providing scientific-technical support for industries and organizations, educatingmetrology specialists, performing the measurement support for the University departments.

Metrology Institute collaborates with public and private capital and foreign capital enterprises and participate in the development of new measuring methods and systems of the existing metrology Support.

    Metrologists and metrologist inspectors training courses ( TMNT520062 )
    The program is for those who want to gain Metrologist and Metrologist inspector qualifications. Upon completion of the course program certificates valid for 5 years is issued.
    Program Duration: 120 teaching hours.
    Course Frequency: after assembling a group of 10 people.


    Recording equipment inspectors training courses ( TMNT520059 )
    The program is designed for individuals, who have completed training and tachograph manufacturers courses, wishing to obtain recording equipment inspector qualifications and competencies in Metrology. Upon completion of the course program certificates valid for 5 years are issued.
    Program Length : 50 academic hours.
    Course Frequency: after assembling a group of 10 people.


    Workshop on Metrology ( TMNT520060 )
    This program is dedicated to metrologists ( and tachographs inspectors) who wish to improve their skills.
    Program Duration : 8 academic hours.


    Metrology training courses- workshop( TMNT520061 )
    This program is dedicated to metrologists, wishing to improve their skills.
    Program Length : 20 academic hours.
    Course Frequency: 1 time per year.


    Metrology inspectors and instectors of recording equipment performance re-evaluation ( TMNT520058 )
    This program is applied to individuals who want to improve the qualification of metrology inspector or tachograph inspector. The certificates for inspectors, who participated in refresher courses 5 years annually from the date the certificates were issued, are extended for next 5 years (the courses must fulfil requirements of OIML D-14). Metrology inspectors, who did not participate in such courses or participated partly, have adequate examination.
    Program Length : 10 academic hours.
    Course Frequency: after assembling a group of 10 people.

    Laboratories

    Metrological maintenance and calibration laboratory
    Metrological maintenance and calibration laboratory exists to ensure the metrological supervision of research instruments used in Kaunas University of Technology and to resolve other issues related to the measurement instruments used by KTU.

    Laboratory of the Metrology Institute
    Laboratory of the Metrology Institute is a division of Kaunas University of Technology, Institute of Metrology, performing checks of all acoustic noise and vibration meters which are type approved Lithuania. The instrument verification is carried out in the laboratory acoustic chamber equipped with laboratory reference standards.

    New innovative methods of measurement and their use in device used for  heat metering instrumentation control. The aim of the MTEP project was to develop a noninvasive method for precision measurement of water flow and temperature in the heating systems, using the devices that are attached to the outer walls of the pipe. During MTEP project measurement transducers calibration hardware was developed. In 2012 static and dynamic modes of operation were investigated and software for this system was further developed.
    According to the studies of the country’s unity of measurement metrological systems development theme in 2012 measuring instruments for packaged goods conformity assessment and document examination was performed. In order to confirm the measurement system type and include them in the Lithuanian instruments register, 28 conformity assessment tasks were performed. Because of this research, metrological reliability of Legal Metrology, protecting consumers' rights could be achieved.


    2011

    • Non-invasive measurement of the temperature of the liquid within pipe, based on thermal resistance evaluation and wireless data transmission was developed. The developed technology is being used in the company "Neumann & CoWasserzahler Glaubitz Gmbh, Germany.
    • Railway track degaussing technology using variable magnetic field generated by permanent magnets was developed. The developed technology is being used byAB "Lietuvos Geležinkeliai".

    2008

    • Technology - granulometry. The developed technology used Achema.

    2006

    • Composite strip bar stiffness dynamic measurement system prototype was developed. The developed technology is being used by J. Gecevicius scientific services firm GTV.
