Meet the visiting scholars at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities:

Monday, 24 April

11:00– 12:30 | English classes | Mickevičiaus 37, room 003

Matthew Stroud, An English teacher at Bordeaux Institute of Technology – ENSEIRB-MATMECA School of Engineering, Matthew has been teaching students for the last five years in the south-west of France. He currently teaches final-year Bachelor’s students and Master’s students, covering language exams such as the TOEIC and IELTS, as well as semesters focused on culture and cultural interactions. In these lessons, he has organised various virtual exchanges between his students in Bordeaux and others in the USA, Finland, UK and now Kaunas. These exchanges have focused not only on language practice, but also cultural differences in various contexts, whether they be moving to a different country, working with an international team, or creating a project to experience working with people from different backgrounds and who have different approaches to work.

Mónica Codina holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy. She is a Professor at the Faculty of Communication, Universidad de Navarra, Spain (1999), where she is Deputy Director of the Public Communication Department (2008-present). She has 24 years of experience in teaching Journalism Ethics and Communication Ethics at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She has three favorable teaching evaluations. Her research focuses on the study of communication ethics and society, addressing both its philosophical underpinnings and its practical application. She has an interdisciplinary research profile that addresses cross-border issues related to public communication concerning sustainability, lifestyle, fashion, religion, storytelling, science, and culture.

María Fernanda Novoa-Jaso is a Ph.D. in Communication (Cum laude, Extraordinary doctorate award 2021) and Master of Social Sciences Research (2017). She is a professor at the School of Communication at the University of Navarra, where she teaches International Communication, Public Opinion, and Sociology. Research areas: Journalistic professional roles, representations in popular culture, TV series, programs of study of public reception of public opinion.

17:30 – 19:00 | Lecture “Breaking New Ground: Gender Realities and Indian Women Filmmakers”| Mickevičiaus 37, room 209

Gauri Durga Chakraborty, Professor, Times School of Media & Chairperson, Women Development Cell, Bennett University, India. Her PhD is in Mass Communication, research areas focus on gender studies, feminist film studies and cultural studies.

The talk will highlight some distinct influences for the changing ecosystem of filmmaking in India as well as discuss how they appear or manifest in both mainstream and alternate spaces. It will also glance at specific data which highlights the absences in the inclusion of a non-male perspectives.

 Wednesday, 26 April

9:00 – 12:30 | Lecture “History of Indian Cinema” | Mickevičiaus 37, room 213

Jolly Jose, PhD, is an Associate professor at Amity School of Communication, Amity University Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India. Her area of teaching is Communication Research, Development Communication, Media Ethics and Journalism. Her research interests are Women, Children, New Media and Journalism.

The lecture gives an overall view ofthe emergence of cinema in India, the growth of cinema as a mass medium and dominant mode of public entertainment. The lecture will cover the silent period (1913-31), the talkie era of Indian cinema, the stunt and action genre as well as the emergence of social themes in post-independent India (1947-1960s) and commercial films.

Ana Melro, Lecturer in Media and Communications at the University of Maia and a researcher in the Communication and Society Research Centre (University of Minho) and in the Technology and Intermedia Studies Research Centre (University of Maia), Portugal. She holds a European PhD in Media and Education Studies from University of Minho in partnership with the Autonomous University of Barcelona. She was a postdoctoral research fellow of the Institute of Coding, at the University of Exeter, and has been developing her research around media, technology, and young people.

Odete Girão, Lecturer in Media and Communications at the University of Maia and a researcher in the Communication and Society Research Centre at the University of Minho (University of Minho) and in the Technology and Intermedia Studies Research Centre (Univeristy of Maia), Portugal. She is a PhD student in Media and Education Studies from UMinho where she studies the digital competences of young people.

Thursday, 27 April

Turana Alvan Aliyeva, is a clinical psychologist, clinical social worker, researcher and an educator with over a decade of experience in providing psychotherapy to disadvantaged groups of people with mental health and behavioral issues. The main research interests include development and deployment of trauma informed culture sensitive interventions for trauma affected children and youth. Completed her doctoral studies in School Psychology.

 

13:30 – 15:30 | Lecture on gender issues in the module of „Sociology“ | Mickevičiaus 37, room 1020

Aija Zobina, Professor of the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Latvia. She is also a lead researcher and director of Advanced Social and Political Research institute (ASPRI) at University of Latvia. Her research interests range from the topics of public health, quality of life and sustainable development of nation to transformative ecotourism potential for sustainable regional development amnd more.

Friday, 28 April

11:00 – 12:30 | Online lecture “Brand Innovation and Impact of Design Activity: the anticipation of impact of students’ projects” | Zoom: https://liedm.zoom.us/j/92921689528

Catarina Lélis, holds an UG degree in Design, an MA in Innovation and Knowledge Management, and a PhD in Sciences and Technologies of Communication. She began her professional experience in 1997 as a graphic designer. Whilst in industry, she co-founded a technology-based company, a publishing start-up, and the Portuguese Association for Innovation and Creativity in Organisations. As an academic, she spent six years in London during which time she was “Associate Professor in Brand Design and Innovation” and where she was awarded a teaching fellowship with her project The Impact Plan. Currently, Catarina is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Aveiro, Department of Communication and Art, in Portugal. Her research interests include Brand Design, Smartness in Visual Identities, Design Literacy, and Anticipation of Impact.
